Bal Jagat- Children’s World Inc. is cooperating with CHSFS Agency who works directly with DIF in Sonora. The DIF (Desarrollo Integral de la Familia) is Mexico’s central childhood welfare agency to facilitate adoptions and is located next to the new UNACARI orphanage in Sonora. The Mexico program is a new program available to adoptive families. While at the
UNICARI orphanage, children attend school (preschool and up), have a high staff to child ratio and are attended to by fulltime professionals including; pediatricians, physical therapists, sport coordinators, music teachers, social workers and psychology staff.
The children are from infancy and older in age, some are a part of sibling groups and even children with known medical and special needs are awaiting a loving Forever Family. Many of the children who have come into DIF care have a background that may include abuse or neglect. Prospective parents must be 25 years of age or older and at least 17 years older than the adopted child. Adoption is open to couples and single women with no criminal history in the U.S. or Mexico. Parents must be in good health and provide proof of health insurability of the child; in addition, adoptive parents need to submit a psychological evaluation – MMPI – to be considered. Spanish language fluency is not required, but parents should have a strong willingness to learn competency. As this is a newly formed program, additional requirements are still being determined in consultation with DIF-Sonora and will be updated as they are presented.
Parents are required to make a trip to Mexico lasting 3 to 5 weeks for convivencia (period of attachment – literally, living together); which if found to be successful, the judicial process will move forward.
