Romania
Bal Jagat has been approved by the Romania Adoption Committee since 1994, and holds a Romanian adoption license. Romania has signed the Hague Convention. Romania continues to be one of our most successful programs. We feel pleased and confident with the process and outcome of this program.

The children who are available for adoption live in orphanages throughout Romania. They have been abandoned, relinquished and have been put on the Committee's list for six months. Children released by their birth mothers in the maternity hospital do not have to wait six months. These infants are released after three months and may be referred as young as four months of age. These beautiful children are usually healthy, but sometimes may suffer from typical symptoms of institutionalized care. Prior to the referral, all children are medically examined and are tested for Hepatitis B and HIV.

Bal Jagat will provide a photo of the child with social and medical history. In some cases this information may not be available. If you do not agree with the first choice, you may be given another option. Families can specify the desired gender and age of the child. The average age at the time of referral is about nine months and older.

Couples and single women may apply. Parents are required to make a trip to Romania lasting two weeks to meet and then accompany their child into the United States and are assisted throughout the process by Bal Jagat facilitators in both the United States and in Romania.

We are happy to supply prospective parents with references of families who have participated in our program.

Currently, Romanian adoptions are suspended.
