Thailand
Bal Jagat is an accredited agency licensed by the Government of Thailand. Thailand is a good program if both people are of Thai descent (according to the Thai Govt.’s preference). However, we suggest that only people with patience should apply for this program as the adoption process is very slow in this country.

After the dossier is completed, the referral is given between 9 to 12 months. Parents receive the child's picture, background history, medical history and negative AIDS test. In some cases, we may not get any information, but medical tests will be done for all referred children. Children at the time of arrival may be a year old. Parents can specify the gender of the child. Children are abandoned due to poverty or unwed mothers. Children will be healthy and tested for AIDS and Hepatitis B at the time of referrals. The childcare in Thailand is excellent.

Parents are required to stay for two weeks in Thailand. You will have your new child in your possession on the second day when you arrive in country. You will receive the adoption decree and other documents in English. Thailand does not allow single women to adopt; therefore this program is open only to couples. Adoptive parents must be under age 35 to adopt an infant child. One prior divorce is acceptable. Adoption of male children is quicker than females. Thailand prefers childless couples or one child in the family, but if they have two children of the same gender, they must adopt a child of the opposite gender. The annual income of the adoptive family must be a minimum of $30,000.

Thailand authorities do care for their children's welfare after they are adopted, so they are asking that progress reports to be sent every two months, up to six months (a total of three reports with six pictures).
