African Countries
Burundi : Burundi is a Hague Convention Country. For this program, Bal Jagat- Children's World Inc. is not the Primary Provider. We have partnerships with with other Hague Accredited agencies who have successful Burundi adoption programs.
Adoption Requirements:
Family Eligibility to Adopt:
• An adopting parent should be at least thirty years of age.
• An adopting parent must be a minimum of fifteen years older than the child to be adopted.
• Married couples or single women may adopt.
• If married, adopting parents must have been married five years.
Overall Time frame, Referral, and Travel: Adopting from Burundi will generally take a minimum of one year. The time it takes to offer a proposed match varies, depending upon the request of the adoptive family, each case is different. Families may travel to Burundi only once, or more often. While one trip is a requirement, we strongly recommend that families (one or both spouses) consider traveling to Burundi more than once. If you have time to make a trip, for cultural education, prior to the end of your adoption, you will benefit yourself, your child, and the entire US adoption community. Post Adoption Reports:Progress reports are required until the child is 18 years old. Three reports must be completed by a social worker. Children age five and older are in the greatest need of families, although it is also possible to be matched with younger children. Infant adoption is not possible, as Burundi requires a child be under care for at least one year before the child can be referred for adoption. There are Special needs children also waiting to be adopted.

"Adoption is a gift of life." Hemlata Momaya, MSW, Founder
2016 Congressional "Angels in Adoption" Award Recipient
"Dear Hemlata and Mausami, Thank you both for all you do for your clients and mostly the children getting adopted. I truly appreciate you both."- Wivine
"We often think of you and the valuable and truly life changing impact your work has for others. We are very hopeful things will continue to go smoothly for you and that you will be able to continue helping families like ours for many more years!"- Sunil K (adoptive parent of a daughter from India)
"We have had a fantastic experience with Bal-Jagat in completing our adoption homestudy. Hemlata and Mausami are exceptionally knowledgeable, kind and thorough- the exact qualities needed in the often bewildering process of international adoption! We can't recommend them enough and are so excited to hopefully meet the newest member of our family soon!"- Angela W. (Adoptive mother of a daughter from Arica).
"Hemlata and Mausami are the best people I ever worked with. They go above and beyond to help with my son's adoption which has not been easy given the location and timing of it. I'm adopting from a country that's not known to many ... and because of that, it's been difficult to secure a great support system with knowledge of the process. But I'm glad I found Hemlata and Mausami to do my home study, they're able to connect me with the right people, keep me updated with any changes, keep checking on me and going out of their ways to provide any resources to get me through. They're the best in what they do, very trustworthy and kind. I would recommend them for anyone looking to adopt, especially internationally. You need people like them on your side ..."- Wivine - Adoptive Mother- posted on Yelp
"Hemlata, Barbara (Previous Romania Program Coordinator) and the Romanian staff which included Vivi (In country Romania Program Coordinator) and Dan (In country assistance) were fabulous when we adopted our twins in 1998. The process was smooth and we even received assistance when my husband and I contracted food poisoning in country. A English speaking doctor was brought to the apartment where were staying. You cannot get such service in the US! Hemlata and Mausami remain in close contact and are very supportive. It was a great experience!" - Regina E. (Adoptive Mother of twin daughters from Romania)
"Hemlata and the staff at Bal Jagat were instrumental in the most joyous and life affirming moments in my existence. They put our family together 2 times and for that we are forever grateful. Our home is filled with hugs, ipods, barking, homework, yelling, tears, playdates, school projects, video games, family movie nights, bedtime stories, skylanders, happy moments and sad moments. But for the last 12 1/2 years there has been love - always love. And I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you Hemlata and Bal Jagat." - Liz N. (Adoptive Mother of two sons from Guatemala)
